Difference between All India Quota & State Quota

AIQ(15%) VS SQ(85%) Counselling 2023

  • NEET AIQ vs State Quota comes into the picture during the counselling rounds of the admission process.
  • NEET AIQ quota comprises 15% of the total available seats to grant students admission in top most colleges at an all-India scale.
  • The state quota is applicable for 85% of total seats available.

Seat Distribution 2023

NEET-UG 2023 counselling is divided into two categories: AIQ counselling and state-level counselling. NEET-UG AIQ counselling is conducted by the MCC, whereas state-level counselling is conducted by the respective states.

Reservation Quota

All India Quota Seats (AIQ)

State Quota Seats (SQ)

85%

AIQ(15%) Counselling

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducts counselling for the 15% seats under the All India quota for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). There are various stages to the process. This year, NEET counselling 2023 has started from October, 2023.

AIQ Reservation Policy

  • 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates
  • 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates
  • 27% seats in Central Educational Institutions are reserved for OBC
  • 5% for PwD category candidates

SQ (85%) Counselling

There are 85% of seats that are filled under the State Quota. The Quota seats are available to applicants from the corresponding states. After considering several factors such as the number of seats in the state’s medical colleges, the NEET cut-off, and the types of students seeking admission to medical and allied programmes.

Counselling Rules

  • In each Indian state, candidates who live in the state have access to 85 per cent of the total medical seats (government).
  • In several states, specific laws apply to corresponding categories for seat reservation in MBBS/BDS programmes.
  • Admissions to medical courses in private medical colleges would be governed by state authority regulations.

All About AACCC

The full form of AACCC  is Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee, which operates under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India in New Delhi. This process aims to fairly distribute AIQ-Undergraduate seats in fields such as BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS within Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homoeopathy disciplines. Notably, this pertains to various institutions including Govt. Aided, Central Universities, National Institutes, and Deemed Universities. Starting from 2019, these institutions have been utilizing 100% of NEET (UG) qualified candidates’ scores as the basis for admission.

For the academic year 2023-24, the allocation of seats hinges on the performance of candidates in the NEET (UG)-2023 Examination administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

To facilitate this process, the AYUSH Counselling is conducted online, aligning with the schedule released by the AACCC. Interested candidates can take part in this seat allocation procedure by visiting the official AACCC counseling website at aaccc.gov.in.

FAQ Schema

Candidates who are willing to take admitted to Uttar Pradesh for AYUSH courses can register themselves on the official website https://www.ugcounselling.ayushup.in/

The UP AYUSH Counselling will start from the last week of August 2023 approximately, and it will update on their official website.

There are 10 government BAMS Colleges in UP AYUSH.

  • All the Indian Nationals, Overseas Citizens of India, NRIs and Persons of Indian Origin are eligible for AIQ seats.
  • J&K, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are the states that have opted out of the counselling.
  • If candidates from these states wish to participate, they must furnish a self-declaration form.

Here is an example that would help you understand the eligibility criteria for NEET State Quota Counselling better.

If a student belongs to the domicile of Karnataka, he/she can aspire for 15% AIQ and 85% state quota of Karnataka. If the student is unable to get admission under AIQ due to higher cutoffs, the chances of securing admission in top medical colleges under the state quota are high. As different states individually release a rank list for MBBS admission based on NEET rank, a student securing 100+ rank in AIQ has chances of securing less than 15 ranks in the state quota.

All India Quota (AIQ) comprises 15% of all seats in NEET UG while the remaining 85% seats are reserved for state quota. The competition level of All India quota is high as students across the country want admission in the topmost colleges. However, aspirants have a better chance of getting admission in a college as the competition level is less. The only restriction is that one needs to choose a college within the state they are residing in. So, depending on students’ aspirations and goals, they can gain maximum advantage from the admission rounds.
